The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) is the world's largest nonprofit organization devoted exclusively to advancing the unmanned systems and robotics community. It was created in 1972 and has evolved with the ever-evolving technologies that make up unmanned systems and robotics.

The AUVSI Foundation began operation in 2009 with generous support from AUVSI.  As a separate organization — the Foundation is a 501(c)3 — it exists to develop and manage hands-on robotic programs to attract students of all ages. Foundation programs are meant to attract and inspire future generations of roboticists, engineers and scientists who will continue to innovate and grow the global robotics industry.  The Foundation’s student competitors of today are the future workforce for AUVSI’s member companies and the robotics industry overall.

This unique relationship allows students at the earliest ages to understand that a career in robotics is a possibility, and it helps motivate them to pursue studies and hands-on experience with a career in mind.
