The SeaPerch program provides students with the opportunity to learn about robotics as well as science, technology engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while building an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) from a kit.

Using low-cost, easily accessible parts and an established curriculum, students learn tool safety and technical procedures to get hands-on experience with basic marine engineering, design and science concepts.

After the SeaPerch robot is constructed and tested, students are encouraged to compete in a local or regional SeaPerch competition to qualify for the International SeaPerch Challenge.

Hands-on learning

Students learn best by doing, and during the process of building SeaPerch, they follow an established curriculum to completely assemble the ROV, then test and launch their vehicles. Throughout the project, students will learn engineering concepts, problem solving, teamwork, and technical applications.

Building a SeaPerch ROV teaches basic skills in ship and submarine design, and encourages students to explore naval architecture and marine and ocean engineering principles. Through the curriculum, which maps to the new generation science standards, the students learn basic science and engineering concepts, as well as tool safety and technical procedures.

Today’s SeaPerch participant can be tomorrow’s rising star in the fields of naval architecture, and naval, ocean and marine engineering.

SeaPerch "Kits for Kids" program offers organizations the opportunity to contribute to STEM outreach in their local communities by donating SeaPerch underwater robotics kits to schools and programs in need.

First, thank you again for the gift of learning you provided for my students. They are still talking about the experience, and last week connected the concept of fish swim bladders to the buoyancy concepts we learned.
